We feel like we’ve lost a month with Rick doing the tiling Friday, Saturday and Mondays. He has to squeeze in a client meeting or site visit sometimes, though, so its not like he gets 3 complete days to work on the tiling.
He’s put down the tile on the front bath floor and the laundry floor and started working on the pantry splash today. The great vintage wine ad tiles we got are just slightly too big for the mosaic tiles we’re putting in so we couldn’t scatter them around, like we wanted. We had to put them in a row, but they still look terrific!
The granite is installed and sealed and looks fabulous! Last week I covered it all with sheets of cardboard to protect it. It has lots of color in it, with an emphasis on rust with a background of cream. The granite in the laundry room is similar but with more black in it, like pepper. And that looks great with the round stainless steel sink and faucet.
But, probably the best thing that’s happened last week was that the art glass was installed by John Joy. Its absolutely fabulous! Mostly clear, patterned glass with a border of green and a bouquet of roses in the middle. Simple and elegant and it coordinates with the green of the walls beautifully!
I looked for marble tiles for the fireplace hearths…too many choices! I’ll have to have Rick come with me…does he want 16″ or 18″ or 20″…and there seemed to be different depths and I’m not sure how deep the bamboo flooring will be so I need clarification. The prices range from $3.50 to $10.00 a square foot with sale prices for some but you have to buy a pallet and that’s 135 square feet…I only need about 30…
I’m getting tired, though. Its kind of like when you have a newborn baby and you’re not getting any sleep and you smell like spit-up all the time. You begin to feel like this is your life…forever. Forgetting that its only a stage of life…it doesn’t last forever and you’ll be onto the next stage. So, we focus on getting the job done and look forward to the next stage…but I’m still tired and I can’t imagine how Rick feels tiling day after day, weekend after weekend. Its good to take a break for Thanksgiving, but that’s another week lost and now we’re into December!
Now that I have passed my real estage agent test, I have to find a broker. I’ve gotten some solicitations from various real estate firms but will try the word-of-mouth process first to find a good match. I’ve got time – I have to be licensed within a year after taking the test – but I don’t want to put it off, either. Its just that I’m not in a rush.
The light fixtures we bought came in…we get to hang the crystals on the chandelier, all 90-some of them! It also came with crystal swags, but we might decide that’s a little over the top and skip them. We’ll see. I’ll be glad when the fixtures are in place, the house gets kinda dark at 4pm these days and we have to stop work – which is a good thing and a bad thing….too early to quite but, boy, am I pooped by then! We have a couple shop lights to help us keep going. Once I had to pull the truck into the front yard and shine the headlights into the house so we could see to clean up! Ah, yes, fun times…
